It's Tax Season. Yay!

In the weeks leading up to actually getting our refund I usually like to spend it thinking of everything we could do with the money. Like, we could get a new computer since this one is seven years old and likes to freeze up and erase files. Or we could pay off a chunk of our debt. Or, or, or.... None of those things actually ends up happening though because we're students and it all goes towards bills and regular life in the end.

But this year is different.

Tax season is usually yay! because we don't have anything complicated to file (and I'm not the one doing it). But this year while there is still nothing complicated to file that seems to be the problem. Usually we end up with a very healthy refund, but it turns out if you don't make any money and therefore don't pay any taxes you don't get to take the child credits, and therefore don't get a refund.

Huh.

So much for having a baby last year. So, yay! we're done with our taxes, filed and accepted by the IRS last night, but in all our 10+ married years we've never gotten so little back.

Stupid IRS logic.

I could tell you that it's Providence, that somehow it's all part of The Master Plan, and some of you may see it that way. But it doesn't feel that way. It feels a lot like bending over and....

Happy Tax Season Everybody!

Val,

You need to double check that... we make barely anything and hardly pay anything and still get a nice refund every year. What about the earned income tax credit? That should give you a bit as well...

Turbo Tax all the way baby. That thing does all the work for you and.....we are even poor enough this year to be able to get it for free. Which is all good because we may end up having to pay the GOV this year. Crappy!

We used Turbo Tax which is why we're so sure about our refund.

Andy - you don't have to make very much, but you do have to make more than we did.

That should give all the poor people out there some idea of just HOW LITTLE we made last year.

I tried running my own taxes last night. I get $0. Of course I paid $0 as I earned $0 this year. Aiden and I will have to file together so I can feel like I was part of a return that got something back. Plus, I'm apparently his dependent. that's weird.
