So, hiatus over. Don't ask. Please.

I grew up in a rural area. We lived on two acres and over the course of my childhood had a pony, a horse, dogs, cats, and a multitude of beef (you know, steers. No? how 'bout this: boy cows that have been fixed). Anyhow, I remember feeding the little baby cows from a bottle, and I remember tromping out to the barn and feeding them hay and grain in the winter. I've worn barn boots in cow crap, I've seen hornbuds be cauterized, and I've seen the little rings put on the boy parts to make them, well, no longer boys.

This is part of my upbringing, it's part of my children's heritage (in a loose interpretation of the word 'heritage'). So why do they hate animals so much? I went to the fair with Lincoln the other day and walked through all the animal barns. He cried everytime we went into a new barn. He didn't like the goats, he didn't like the chickens and geese, he especially didn't like the cows. We didn't even attempt the pigs or the horses. I did get him to touch the sheep. But the rest of the time - argh! And the thing is there was fresh sawdust in all the barns, there was no big smell problem going on. He just. Didn't. Like it.

Caden is the same way. Every time the Jr. Livestock show happens Daddy always thinks it'll be great fun to take the kids and see the animals. Except they hate it and everyone whines and complains until you feel like trading them in for one of the cute little cows. At least we could eat the cow if it whined - not so with the children.

So what up fellow bloggers? (that's not a typo, that's my hip lingo, which I've already posted about...) Are mine the only ones? Any heritage shunning activities going on with your offspring?

glad you're back!

I can't think of anything to answer your question. That's too bad with your kids being animal haters. It's the opposite around here...I hate animals and I swear Emma's going to grow up to be a vet or something.

So nice to hear from you.

My kids seem to have an aversion to beatings. I don't know what is wrong with them. I, personally, enjoyed them as a child. :) Just kidding....my parents never beat me. Now.....as for my kids....we won't go there.

This is my first visit to your blog, so I don't know how old your children are. That may have a lot to do with their aversion to the lovely farm animals.
I enjoy singing anf come from a long line of musically gifted people.
I have a couple children who are completely tone deaf.

So I have kids who love the fair and the animals. I can't say anymore because I am apparently now going to post my own blog about the kids and the fair.

My comment for this blog was just too long. And I tried multiple times. I am a subject stealer.

Sorry.

Nice to see you back.
Lacee always liked the animals. She liked them so much that she would tell others trying to see and pet the goats that they were her goats. She would say, (Hey! Don't touch my goats!). Someone would get close and she would again tell them not to touch her goats. It was interesting to try to tell her that the goats were not hers and were there for EVERYONE to see and touch. LOL Gotta love them kids.........(Pun intended).

Yea! You're back on!
D used to cry at the animals. He's getting much better and is now curious. He won't touch them. K is startlingly not afraid of animals and would probably pet a porcupine if she could get close enough.
