Party Planning

We are gearing up for Caden's birthday in just over a week. When we asked a couple of weeks ago what kind of party he wanted he said, "Donkey Kong!" He doesn't seem to care that no one under the age of Uncle Brent (and even that's pushing it) would know who or what Donkey Kong is. The only reason Caden (and Lincoln) know is because after Christmas in 2006 we borrowed Uncle Brent's old Nintendo, and Donkey Kong was one of the games we brought home. After 6 months of non-step pestering to play the game, and hours-long obsessive bouts of game playing mommy had had enough and took it away. The next opportunity, Nintendo went back home to Uncle Brent. However, even though it has been over a year since it left us, the boys continue to "play" Donkey Kong. Lincoln is Donkey Kong and Caden is Diddy Kong. This has led to a ban on monkey noises at our house.

This is the extremely long way of saying that we are NOT having a Donkey Kong party. After presenting a plethora of other options Caden finally decided on a cowboy theme. I am so excited! I am probably more excited than Caden is. Since we have boys we have to have at least one cowboy party....it's just so boyish! We made cool invitations, and since Caden wanted a treasure hunt and a pinata we get to do that too. I found a cool pattern online to make a Hobby Horse (or pig, or cow, or donkey....) so that's going to be our craft. I'm having so much fun shopping and creating - sometimes I just need a creative fix and this is doing it for me right now. Now we only have to pray for good weather between 1 and 3pm on the 3rd. Should be fun!

It sounds like his party will be a lot of fun. I hope all goes well on the day of. It's nice that I have about 6 months between the girls birthdays so that if I over do it for one party I have time to recover before the next one!

It's really sad that I know more about what is going on with you by reading the blog than getting on the phone. Happy day to Caden! Talk to you soon.
